WASHINGTON EQUINE PROGRAMS
The State of Washington has a lack of collegiate equine degree programs. While programs exist for Animal Science and Veterinary Technology, equine specific programs do not.
Washington State University
is located in Pullman, Washington (Flagship Campus, and offers a professional Doctoral (DVM) degree through its
College of Veterinary Medicine.
Through the Teaching Hospital, the University offers equine services including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Infectious Diseases, Lameness Evaluation and Treatment and Neurologic Evaluations. The Equine Center also provides Equine Surgery, Imaging, Reproductive Services, Equine Dentistry and Emergency Services.
The College of Veterinary Medicine also publishes an
Equine Newsletter
providing periodic equine health information.
As a land grant university, Washington State is base for the USDA Extension 4-H Program. The Extension Horse Program
provides a numbers of resources for equine enthusiasts including: Equine Specific Websistes covering a number of equine topics: (Equine Health, Exercise, Facility Design); Online Courses in Horse care and Management; Publications (Feeding and Conformation Analysis); as well as traditional one-on-one expertise through Extension Agents in a number of areas.
The 4-H Program is active in providing resources for 4-H Equine Programs in Washington State. There are number of Youth Publications and Programs available including Dressage, Driving, and Rodeo Skills.
The University also offers a competitive
Polo Club.
The University of Washington
is located in Seattle, Washington. The University does not have an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive
Equestrian Team
competing in English and Western.
Central Washington University
is located in Ellensburg, Washington. The University does not have an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive English and Western
Equestrian Team.
The University also offers a very active and competitive
Rodeo Club.
Western Washington University
is located in Bellingham, Washington. The University does not have an equine degree program but does offer a competitive Hunt Seat and Western Equestrian Team.
Seattle University
is located in Seattle, Washington. The University does not have an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive Equestrian Team.
