SOUTH CAROLINA EQUINE PROGRAMS
Clemson University
is located in Clemson, South Carolina, and offers a B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Science with an Equine Business Concentration.
Course work includes: Introduction to Animal Science, Financial Accounting Concepts, Horse Care Techniques, General Biology or Chemistry, Horsemanship I-II, Applied Animal Nutrition, Equine Behavior and Training, Advanced Equine Management, and Animal Agribusiness Development.
As a land-grant university, Clemson is a base for the USDA Extension 4-H Program. The Extension Service also operates the
T. Ed Garrison Arena.
The Arena has a 140 x 260 Indoor Arena with seating for 3,000. The Complex also has 440 permanent 10 x 10 stalls and can expand to 150 additional portable stalls.
Clemson also offers a competitive
Equestrian Team.
The team currently competes in Hunt Seat Equitation.
Lander University
is located in Greenwood, South Carolina, and offers a Minor in Therapeutic Horsemanship.
Course work inludes Anatomy and Phsyiology, Equine Care, Equine Management, and Fundamentals of Riding.
Lander maintains an equine facility with 37 acres and 26 stalls including outdoor riding arenas. Expansions of the facilities are planned.
Lander also offers an Equestrian Team,
competing in Hunt Seat and Western.
The
University of South Carolina-Aiken
is located in Aiken, S.C. Aiken, S.C., has for decades been a winter center for many Thoroughbred racehorses and is, along with Camden, S.C., an equine center for South Carolina. Planning is underway to develop a more extensive horse program at USC-Aiken. USC-Aiken does not offer an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive Equestrian Team.
The Team is based at
Bridlewood Farms.
Erskine College
is located in Due West, South Carolina. Erskine does not have an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive Equestrian Team.
The Team competes in Hunt Seat and Western and is based in Abbeville, South Carolina at
Cricket Hollow Stables.
Converse College
is located in Spartanburg, Soth Carolina. The College does not have an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive
Equestrian Team
competing in all English disciplines. The Team is based in Campobello, South Carolina at
Motlow Creek Equestrian Center.
Furman University
is located in Greenville, South Carolina. Furman does not have an equine degree program, but does offer competitive Equestrian (Hunt Seat) and Dressage Teams. The Equestrian Team is based in Marietta, South Carolina, at
Foxwood Farm.
The
College of Charleston
is located in Charleston, South carolina. The College does not have an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive (Hunt Seat)
Equestrian Team.
The
University of South Carolina
is located in Columbia, South Carolina. The University does not offer an equine degree program, but does offer a competitive Women's
Equestrian Team.
The Team competes in Hunt Seat and Western and is based in Blythewood, South Carolina, at One Wood Farm.
