MASSACHUSETTS EQUINE PROGRAMS
The
University of Massachusetts Amherst
is a land grant university located in Amherst, Massachusetts. The University offers a B.S. in Equine Industries. Course work includes Equine Anatomy, Equitation, Managing Your Business, Theories and Methods of Equitation Instruction, Breaking and Training and Equine Stud Farm Management.
The University maintains a herd of approximately 60 horses including 30 Bay State Morgans. The
Equine Reproduction Center
is housed at the Department-owned Hadley farm and houses an indoor arena and the School's breeding stallions. As a land-grant university, the USDA Extension and 4-H Programs is operated by the UMass
Center for Agriculture.
Tufts University
is located in Medford/Somerville, Massachusetts. Tufts University houses the Cummings
School of Veterinary Medicine.
The School offers a professional degree (DVM) and operates a
Hospital for Large Animals
offering full
Equine Care. The facilities are premier equine facilities in New England.
Becker College
is located in Worcester, Massachudetts, and offers a B.S. in Business Administration-Equine Management and a B.S. in Veterinary Science-Equine Concentration.
Course work includes Equine Nutrition, Breeding and Management, Priciples of Riding Instruction, Facilities Management, Equine Biomechanics and Conformation, and equine pathology and Disease.
Becker College offers a comeptitive Women's
Equestrian Team. The College
Equestrian Center
sits on 30 acres and features indoor and outdoor arenas with boarding.
Mount Ida College
is located in Newton, Massachusetts, and is featured as a Spotlight School.
Mount Ida College also offers a competitive
Equestrian Team.
Mount Holyoke College
is located in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Mount Holyoke does not offer an equine degree program, but does offer a significant Riding Program. Mount Holyoke Teams compete intercollegiately and have a very impressive record on a National Basis.
The Holyoke equestrian facilities include a 60-stall Barn, two Indoor Arenas, Outdoor Arenas, and two croos-country courses. The College hosts the Riding Team (two National Chamionships), Dressage Team (three National Championships), and is now fields a Western Team. is located in Easton, Massachusetts. The College does not offer an equine degree, but does hots a competitive
Equestrian Team.
